Vibrant & Inclusive

Burnaby, B.C.

Seaforth Elementary School

Creating this playground design for Seaforth Elementary School in Burnaby, B.C. was rewarding, as this school had gone several years without any playground equipment. The PAC and School District Administration (along with a famous and wealthy neighbour whose children attend the school), helped make this dream a reality. One of the top goals for the school was to make the playground as inclusive as possible. We came up with an large wheelchair-accessible design featuring two wheelchair ramps, the Accessible Bouncing Tippy Canoe, four exciting slides, the innovative Earthquake Climb, a 20’ Glide Ride, and many more thrilling components. Also included in the design are two 4-bay swing sets as well as a Hybrid Swing with one belt seat and one accessible seat, offering more accessible items. A top must-have was the universally accessible All-Around Merry-Go-Round which creates barrier-free spinning for everyone! Poured-in-place rubber surfacing under the All-Around, Accessible Swing Seat, and wheelchair ramp increased the inclusiveness of the playground. The vibrant Cotton Candy colour scheme added energy to the final result. This project truly has something for everyone of all ages and abilities and has become a true destination playground for this area.
